Whitechapel - A Regeneration

Whitechapel is undergoing a massive £300m+ 15-year regeneration, transforming it into a high-tech life sciences hub and residential area, anchored by the Elizabeth Line station. Key projects include a £750m healthcare campus, thousands of new homes, a new town hall, and significant upgrades to Whitechapel Market.

Key Aspects of Whitechapel Regeneration:

Barts Life Sciences Cluster: A major focus is establishing a world-class life sciences and innovation cluster, which is estimated to contribute £1 billion annually to the UK economy and create over 13,000 jobs.

New Development and Housing: Plans include over 500 new homes near the Royal London Hospital, as well as major residential projects such as The Silk District. The transformation includes a mix of new affordable, private, and family housing.

Infrastructure and Civic Upgrades:

Town Hall: A new £105m Town Hall/civic center for Tower Hamlets is being built on the former Royal London Hospital site.

Whitechapel Road Improvements Programme (WRIP): A £15m investment to renovate 40 shops and modernise the historic market.

Transport: The new Whitechapel Crossrail (Elizabeth Line) station acts as a central interchange with fast access to Canary Wharf, Bond Street and Heathrow.

Economic Development: The area is expanding its creative industries and providing flexible workspaces for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Green Credentials: The project aims to improve public spaces with 7 new open spaces and better pedestrian/cycle links

In 2015, on the back of the previous Aldgate Masterplan, Hurford Salvi Carr opened their Aldgate Office at 61 Alie Street. We expect this latest regen plan to further enhance the area and its real estate.
