The Aldgate business sector is currently undergoing a significant expansion, shifting from its historical focus on finance and insurance to a more diverse, 24/7 destination city. This transformation is driven by a massive influx of international corporations and the strategic oversight of the Aldgate Connect Business Improvement District (BID). 

Major Commercial Growth & Key Occupiers

Aldgate has evolved into a strategic hub for global tech and professional services, moving away from being just an overflow area for the City of London. 

• Aldgate Tower Lettings: Recent major expansions include Uber increasing its footprint to 88,000 sq ft, alongside new lettings for Multiplex (20,000 sq ft) and KDDI Corporation (10,000 sq ft).
• Corporate Cluster: The area now hosts international firms such as Dell, Aecom, and Hyperion Insurance, as well as the Government Digital Service.
• Tech & Innovation: Located within the City Fringe / Tech City Opportunity Area, Aldgate is specifically being protected and expanded to support a diverse cluster of digital-creative businesses. 

Strategic Development & Infrastructure

The expansion is supported by large-scale regeneration projects that blend office, residential, and leisure spaces. 

• Mixed-Use Developments: A new 15-storey tower at 60 Aldgate High Street will include office space, retail units, a refurbished hotel, and a relocated historic pub. British Land is also progressing with Phase 2 of Aldgate Place, which focuses on creating a "campus" environment with high-quality sustainable office space.
• Business Improvement District (BID): The Aldgate Connect BID has recently secured its second 5-year term (2025–2030), managing a £4 million budget to enhance the physical environment and support commercial growth.
• Public Realm Strategy: The Aldgate Connect Public Realm Vision by Gensler aims to remove the "infrastructure-led" feel by converting one-way gyratories into pedestrian-friendly squares like the award-winning

To ensure long-term viability, Tower Hamlets Council are moving towards a "Destination City" model. 

• Night-Time Economy: There is a specific push to maximise residential development and cultural activities to increase vibrancy outside of normal working hours.
• Cultural Reinvention: Projects like the digital reinvigoration of Petticoat Lane and the "Experience Aldgate" marketing guide are designed to draw in tourists and "fun-lovers," moving beyond the standard 9-to-5 commuter cycle

In 2015, on the back of the previous Aldgate Masterplan, Hurford Salvi Carr opened their Aldgate Office at 61 Alie Street. We expect this new investment in the area to be of great benefit to local residents and real estate.
