About the Building
This substantial Georgian brickwork building was constructed between 1768 and 1771, originally used as a warehouse to store the imports from the East India Company, which at the time was a political power thanks to being the largest importer of goods from Asia and Far East, including cotton, liquor, tobacco, tea from China and all sorts of exotic spices. The goods were at the time transported from the river Thames and stored in this warehouse building, which formed part of a group of buildings known as the Cutler Street Complex, this vast and unique complex of warehouses underpinned the companies’ success in international trade for over a century.
Later in the 19th century, as the wealthy classes became fascinated with interior design, a whole range of new products including exotic rugs, ostrich feathers, Chinese cabinetry or sculptures made from Ivory replaced the old imports and filled again the Tapestry building.
The building has been carefully restored to keep its historic character, keeping the original ceilings with exposed beams and exposed brickwork interiors, combined with exquisite contemporary interior design which blends the tradition with the modern identity of the City of London.
This flat is accessed via lift and located on the second floor, in a wing of the building which has only one apartment per floor.
