About the Building
Welles Court is one of seven buildings in Premiere Place, a development built in 1997 by Regalian Homes. It was built on land originally occupied by a brass foundry and warehouse and a chimney from the old foundry remains in the centre of the beautiful landscaped gardens.
About the Area
Premiere Place, on Garford Street, sits between Limehouse, the River Thames, Canary Wharf and West India Docks. During Elizabethan times, the river was brimming with ships and wharfs. The East India Trade company was formed and Britain became hugely successful trading throughout the world. Sadly, due to heavy bombing during the 2nd World War and ships requiring bigger and deeper ports, this thriving maritime district came to an end. However, in the 1980s, London Dockland Development Corporation began to regentrify the whole of London’s Docklands and it is now a stunning place of world renowned commerce and contemporary residential apartments.
Places to Visit
Being a stone’s throw from Limehouse, Isle of Dogs and Canary Wharf, the development is well placed for the many bars, gyms, cinemas and shops that Canary Wharf has to offer, including Waitrose/John Lewis, Goldsmiths, and Marks and Spencer’s. The Museum of London Docklands is minutes away, once a sugar warehouse, now a mine of information about London’s maritime past. The Grapes pub on the River Thames is a must, now over 500 years old, is owned and run by Sir Ian McKellan who played Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings.
Westferry DLR station is on your doorstep, giving you easy access to the City (Bank station), Canary Wharf, Stratford International, and Royal Greenwich. City Airport is also a short DLR journey away, giving you a multitude of international destinations.
