Originally build in 1938 by DE Harrington and Named Mytre house, the buildings original use was for commercial offices, housing surveyors and a large printing company. It is a Grade II listed building that champions art deco design whilst still keeping to the Georgian style of the surrounding houses. The building has many notable features including two sculpted pillars depicting women flanking the entrance door, in the style of the popular 1930’s artist Eric Gill.

About the Area

John street, takes its name after John Blagrave, a favourable carpenter employed by Henry Doughty, the land owner and developer of the street dating back to the 1740’s. Doughty streets most notable resident was Charles Dickens, and its widely regarded to be the place where he wrote his most famous novel, Oliver Twist. To this day The Charles Dickens Museum resides at the address.
